Upgrades in the Barn

Hello folks, it's been a long weekend here on the farm, in the form of not enough hours in the day to get everything completed !!!! We had two goals for ourselves this weekend, as the forecast was rain and wind. And boy there weren't kidding about the wind pretty sure I got wind burn. So with all that in our minds we made of list of things we needed to get done, and we decided upon finishing up what we can of the lighting and putting up the boards on the wall along the alley way.

Now after reading that last sentence of the paragraph you have to be asking yourself right now alley way ? Yes alley way, we have been long designing and redesigning and redesigning at least one section of the barn. We currently don't have a home for our chute or a catchment system in place, so it's really hard when a cow or calf has an issue to get them into the chute with nothing in place. So we know that the one side of the barn will be use for two things an alley to load and unload cattle into the barn. The second was a home for the chute and catchment system. So to start this build or project the alley part needed the oak boards we purchased to be put on the side of the barn. So that was 6 board per section and we had 4 sections of wall to do. We started around 10ish and got that done around 2 pm in which we took a lunch break. Man that subway was good. :)

After we had our subway lunch and completed after noon chores. It started to get dark out and the next question was do we have enough time to doe the second item we wanted to accomplish???? This project was perfect for night time as this was installing the second strand of lights up on the ceiling/rafters of the barn. This ended up like all of our projects not as easy as we think. The lights that were purchased were from amazon. After the installation of the first row of lights and we decided to add an extra layer of security. Rather than just clip the lights to the rafters we wanted to use a cross brace I guess is what you would call it. Then clip and install the lights to it, after seeing how much more securely the lights were especially in that wind. That was a very wise decision, now we have to redo the first row of lights and do the same. Needless to say the barn is extremely bright with two rows of lights. We in this kit have enough to do a third row but until we get the alley way with the additional post etc.. done don't want to install those and risk busting one. Cause that is 100 % our luck , I mean when we had a calf our running around the barn she already knocked into them once and they didn't break. We can't be lucky twice.
