Hello everyone its been a while since we wrote and gave an update on the farm. So in the spirit of the new year, I thought a review of the year 2023.
Needless to say 2023 was a roller-coaster of emotions and projects on the farm. We started the year with Emily sick as a dog, and unable to go to the National Show and Sale in Denver for the second year in a row. We decided to not make plans to go , then maybe it would actually happen for a change.
After what seemed sickness lingered in the house for over a month, we started the long baby wait of 2023. Wondering which cow would be having the first calf of the season. We had in 2022 tested out the new pregnancy's test we had previously wrote a blog about and new that starting in March we should see possibly our first calf. Well March came and went and no calf, needless to say we were starting to worry. We had but all but given up hope when in April 3rd the first calf was born. Then we had calves 04.18, 5.26,6.03,07.28, and the last calf was born 11.14.
We have been working on upgrades to the barn in the mean time. We have put up new lights in the barn, we also put up cameras now we have a 360 view inside the barn.
Then there is the constant work of maintaining and fixing fence. We spent a few hours in hone day getting the full winter's worth of hay for our moo cows.
So our yearly review has been hard work before us and behind us again. When you look back it doesn't look like we have done much, but it more of the routine of things we are getting into. We hare finally getting things dialed in. So here is to 2024
